Welcome (back) Laura Thiessen!

Laura Thiessen – Middle School Teacher

Mrs. Thiessen has wanted to be a teacher since she was a 1st grade student

here at Sussex Christian school. She was heavily impacted by her teacher Mrs. McMillan and wanted to teach students to read like she did.

After pursing a degree in deaf education, Mrs. Thiessen also became licensed in special education. She has enjoyed working with students who have cochlear implants as well as teaching as an inclusion teacher in a middle school several years ago. Experience in these positions will fuel Laura’s classroom this fall teaching middle school students at SCS. When we asked Mrs. Thiessen what Christian education means to her, she shared this-

“Christian education that has Christ as the focus is very important. We need to teach out kids God’s word so that when they face the lies of the world they can defend their faith and realize their hope remains secure in Christ. As a Christian community we nee to encourage one another in faith and challenge each other as well.”

Mrs. Thiessen and her husband have three daughters who as a family were on the mission field in Canada for 13 years, working with a native population in lower Alberta. They recently moved back to our area and will have children at SCS, Veritas Christian Academy, and one starting Bible college this September. We are so excited to have their family joining the Sussex Christian School community!
