Our Heritage
Sussex Christian School was founded in 1958 by members of the Sussex Christian Reformed Church. With much fervent prayer and enthusiastic labor, the School was established to provide a loving, caring environment for learning based on God's infallible Word, the Bible, and continuing the instruction of Christian values taught in homes and churches.
SCS personifies Proverbs 1:7, “The beginning of knowledge is the fear of the Lord.” It is upon this foundation that all instruction has, and will always, be based. Our purpose is to educate young people for a life of obedience to God’s Word, prepare them to be ambassadors for Jesus Christ, and train them to be good citizens in Christ’s Kingdom in this ever-changing and increasingly perilous world. As Christians, we believe that God is part of all aspects of life, consequently, Biblical principles are woven throughout all aspects of the curriculum. This distinct perspective is a chief differentiator of SCS graduates.
SCS continues to provide a Christian education with strong academic programs for elementary and middle school children. Our families reside in northern New Jersey as well as neighboring areas of New York and Pennsylvania. SCS is a non-profit, inter-denominational Christian school. Although its roots are in the Christian Reformed tradition, students come from many churches throughout the area.
